Volunteer – Key to the future !

Saturday 17 October saw the successful conclusion of a meeting of representatives of Don Bosco Youth Network, which links together Salesian organisations working on behalf of young people and volunteers in eleven European countries: Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovenia, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, Slovakia, and more recently Malta and Poland. Held in Krakow, it began on Thursday 14 October. On the agenda were a number of items regarding the future of the network. First was the recognition of DBYN as one of the observers at the European Youth Forum (an international organisation based in Brussels, recognised by the European Union and the United Nations, and intended to be a link between European Institutions and the world of youth). All the necessary documentation for membership of the Forum by DBYN has been forwarded, and at the same time progress is being made to have it recognised as a non-profit organisation by the Justice Ministry of the Belgium Government. Another topic discussed was the Europe-wide project, which is meant to become a new form of collaboration between the associations linked to the network. In fact this is a possible way of presenting common projects. The exchange Market was also given serious consideration as a means of sharing ideas from the different organisations involved. During the four days of meetings time was also found for some interesting cultural events organised by the Polish hosts. Then au revoirs were exchanged until the next meeting of DBYN planned for March 2005 at Benediktbeuern.
