The time seems to have gone so fast this year. We are already in the middle of May. This means that the first part of our working year is coming to a close. We've had statutory meetings, a seminar, a training course, some representation meetings, ... Looking back it al seems like yesterday. When you look at it, it is actually too much work for 1 office worker. Luckily we have 1 extra worker in the office at the moment. As you will be able to read in the ‘news from the network' we are having for the first somebody a student working in the office in the framework of an Erasmus internship. The opportunity of having 2 people in the secretariat made it possible to realise all the things we planned for so far ... therefore I would like to say thank you Martina for all your work the past months ! Rein Meus, General Secretary Don Bosco Youth-Net ivzw

Youth Advocacy Seminar in Prague From the 11th to the 14th of March, about 30 young people from 13 different countries in Europe gathered for the seminar "Speaking up", organised by DBYN and sponsored by the EU "Youth in Action"-progamme. The participants gathered in Prague to learn about how to be more active citizens and how to speak up. The content of this seminar was about advocacy methods and issues. Two trainers of DBYN's pool of trainer provided workshops through which the advocacy process became clearer to all participants. Starting from defining issues and forming objectives we focused on how to approach the problems youth work is facing and how to bring change on local, national and even international level. It became clear to us that good cooperation and the structure of our DBYN or local networks is a key to success, a message which the participants are bringing back to their local organisations. STEP 2 - Empower and involve From the 4th to the 11th of April, the training course "Empower and Involve" took place in Benediktbeuern. It was organized by Don Bosco Youth Net and sponsored by the EU "Youth in Action"-Programme. 25 participants from 13 countries came together to learn more about project management and how to actively create new projects, both in their respective home countries as well as around the whole of Europe. The content of this training course was focused on knowing all the necessary steps in creating, submitting and evaluating projects in youth work. Three trainers of the DBYN's pool of trainers provided training sessions, workshops and (self)reflection. Through adapting a non-formal learning style, the general purpose lay on facilitating better understanding of the opportunities and challenges that come with European youth project management. Erasmus internship in DBYN Since the 22th of February we have a new person working in the international secretariat: Martina Finck. Martina is doing an internship of 22 weeks with us through a scholarship of the Erasmus programme. She will be taking part in our upcoming activities so you can meet her in person. If you want to contact her, you can use following address: martina.finck@donboscoyouth.net. Hi, my name is Martina Finck and I am the intern of the international secretariat of DBYN. Now half the time of my internship is gone and I like to resume my experiences. At the first days I was living in a guesthouse for students while I was looking for a place to live this half year. After one week I found an available room in a student house not far from work. But I was shocked that Leuven is so expensive! Never the less I had to take this room because I was under pressure to move out of the guesthouse and didn't have time to look for something else. Furthermore I had to open a Belgium account and to get to know the town a little bit. I was supported by a very helpful woman Lieve van Aershot and my college Rein Meus. Thank you! All participants who take part in a project of Action 1.1, Action 2, Action 3.1 and Action 4.3 (Training courses) under the Youth in Action Programme have the right to receive recognition for their participation and learning.
