Erasmus internship in DBYN - update 2 Dear readers, It is time again to tell you what I made the last weeks and I will do the following weeks. The last weeks I was creating Youthpasses for the participants who took place in the Step 2 training course in Benediktbeuern. On my opinion it is very good for them to get such a certificate because they can also use it to apply for a job. With the personal description of the key competences the participants learned during the training course everybody can see which development the individuals could go through. Call for input to the European Youth Forum publication on the value of volunteering in you organisations, in the context of the European Year of Volunteering 2011 Following the policy and advocacy work in preparation for the European Year of Voluntary Activities Promoting Active Citizenship 2011(EYV 2011), the need was identified to gather best practice examples on volunteering in order to showcase the work of participatory youth organisations. These best practice examples will feed in and provide a basis for the preparation, implementation and follow up process for the EYV 2011.
OECD calls for recognition of non-formal education and informal learning In April, the OECD published a significant report on "Recognising Non-Formal and Informal Learning: Outcomes, Policies and Practices". If learning most commonly takes place within formal settings, an important part of one's knowledge and skills is also acquired in everyday life, whether deliberately or informally. The OECD report looks in particular at the reasons for recognising non-formal education (NFE) and informal learning and proposes different public policy options to implement it.
Europe to protect unaccompanied migrant minors The European Commission presented on 6th May a ten-point Action Plan to improve the protection of unaccompanied minors who immigrate to Europe. The Action Plan aims to to set minimum standards of protection for all immigrant minors, regardless of their status as asylum seekers or refugees. In the Action Plan on unaccompanied minors, the European Commission urges the prevention of unsafe migration and trafficking in human beings. It recommends specific measures, including specific time limits for specific migrant cases, the collection of comprehensive data on migrant minors, the appointment of a guardian and legal representative, access to health, education and housing. The implementation of the measures will be carried out within a common EU approach of shared responsibilities based on the respect for the rights of the child, as set out in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The European Youth Forum encourages any initiative or action which acts towards the promotion of the the rights of young migrants/unaccompanied minors. It believes that young migrants' concerns are not effectively voiced in Europe and strives notably to make youth organisations more inclusive by building their capacity in reaching out further to young migrants.
