STEP 1 - Intercultural crossroads in Europe The advanced planning visit took place in Krakow from the 18th till the 20th of June. The main aim of this meeting was to plan the programme of the youth exchange itself. In total 10 people participated in the meeting, 8 group leaders, a trainer from DBYN's pool of trainers, and the support staff of the host organisation. A.B. meeting The meeting of the Administrative Body took place from the 26 June. Ireland was hosting this meeting. The international secretariat arrived in Ireland one day before to meet people to talk about the actual affairs in Ireland. the meeting was very fruitful, and enabled the A.B. to better learn to understand the needs of our Irish partner.
The partner organisations are very busy in the moment to prepare their summer activities. You will get some news about theses activities in the up coming newsflashes.
Award for civil courage: The Don Bosco refugee's work cheers Margit Pollheimer of the Don Bosco refugee's work in Austria received the ORF-Greinecker award of civil courage on Tuesday, the 15th June 2010. "The real honour exists in the acknowledgment of the (corporate citizenship) social engagement which this award should express", said Sissy Mayerhoffer, the director of the ORF-Humanitarian Broadcasting. "ORF puts with the honour of 23 years, a sign for life cooperation. I wish you a lot of success in carrying on your such important work and that you succeed in receiving as many young people as possible, to maintain their positive view of the future and in bringing them a successful life and in accompanying and in supporting them for some time - or to say it with the motto of Don Bosco: ‘contribute, so that the lives of young people succeed'". New skills and new jobs for Europeans On the 7-8th June, the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council of the EU met in Luxembourg. Amongst its conclusions, the Council made several recommendations to Member States and the Commission for the "new skills for new jobs: the way forward" initiative. It urged Member States to adapt the skills of citizens in response to changing markets and to improve participation in employment. More info: http://intranet.youthforum.org/newsletters/node/890
Young people at the centre of health policy-making A survey conducted in 2009 shows that 52% of young people ignore that there are EU policies on youth health. When asked them how they could contribute to the decision-making process on health issues, 41% asked to be more directly involved with policy-makers and 40% suggested to improve all the communication channels. On 16-18 June, as part of the European Health Initative "Be Healthy-Be Yourself" 60 young people from 22 European countries are in Rome, Italy for the 1st European Conference on health and well-being of young people.
Belgium takes over the Presidency of the Council of the EU On 1 July 2010, Belgium takes over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union from Spain for the next 6 months. In its programme, Belgium highlights 5 main priorities for the European Union:
These objectives are further developed in 13 thematic chapters that address specific priorities.
Action 4.6 - Partnerships Call for proposals EACEA/16/10 - Executive Agency Call for proposals aiming to support partnership projects with regional or local public bodies (i.e. regions, municipalities, etc.) or with organisations active in the youth sector at European level, which intend to develop or reinforce their long-term actions, strategies and programmes in the field of non-formal learning and youth.

Action 4.3c - Youth Support Systems - Support to youth workers' mobility and exchanges Call for proposals EACEA/15/10- Executive Agency Call for proposals aiming to support, on an experimental basis, youth workers' mobility and exchanges with a view to promoting the acquisition of new skills and competences in order to enrich their profile as professionals in the youth field, as well as to help them better adapt to the changing needs of young people. It will also contribute to the capacity-building and the development of the structures involved.

Let's Train with our Neighbours: Recognition of non-formal learning in youth work CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: 16th August 2010 Let's train with our Neighbours is a part of the long-term cooperation between the Regional SALTO Resource Centres (South East Europe, Euromed and Eastern Europe and Caucasus) and their hosting National Agencies (Slovenia, France, Poland), which promotes the exchange and cooperation with and across the three Neighbouring Partner Regions of the Youth in Action Programme. Three long-term training courses will be organised in the period 2010 - 2011, each of them involving participants from Programme countries as well as all Neighbouring Partner regions, addressing the following topics: 1. Civil Society, participation and democracy, organised by SALTO Euromed, SALTO Participation and the French National Agency 2. Peace Education, organised by SALTO EECA, SALTO Cultural Diversity and the Polish National Agency 3. Newsletter on Educational Tools This newsletter is born with the purpose of informing and involving social workers, youth leaders and trainers in a renewed strategy for increasing the quality and creating synergies between the SALTO instruments devoted to educational tools: the Tool Box and the Tool Fair. The final purpose of this strategy is to improve the quality of educational tools and, by doing so, contribute to the recognition of non-formal education.
