STEP1 - Youth exchange "Intercultural Crossroads in Europe" From the 18th to the 25th of July, the youth exchange "Intercultural Crossroads in Europe" took place in the Salesian Centre WDM in Krakow. It is organized by Don Bosco Youth-Net and sponsored by the European Union "Youth in Action"-Programme. 40 participants and 8 group leaders from 8 countries came together to learn different intercultural aspects, which are basic competence for international youth work. During this week the participants introduced their countries to the whole group. Later on during the day the participants go to taste the different foods of each country. Listening also to some traditional music and learning new dances and even songs. Continuing the week, workshops such as dance, animation movies, eater and music took place. The group leaders scheduled specific sessions on conflicts and values to work on these issues. Participants went along with the sessions and showed a lot of enthusiasm trough out the sessions. They learnt more about the intercultural communication, conflicts and how they can become creative and active as a European citizenship. Our Experience on the Belgian Playgrounds (SPYS, MALTA) At first we knew little about what to expect there, although we had heard about previous experiences which where all positive. When we arrived in Belgium we were immediately welcomed to the international group. During the first weekend we shared experiences and got to know different ideas and cultures, especially about the Belgian culture. We were given training in order to help us for see what we will encounter in the playground. The international volunteers where divided into five Belgian playgrounds. Two Maltese where staying in Halle and the other two where staying in Heverlee. Each had a different but positive experience. The weekends helped us to gain back some energy, visiting Belgium and sharing our experiences at the playground while getting to know each other. By the second week we felt part of the family of the playground. Looking back this experience helped us in achieving greater goals on an international level and the true meaning of Don Bosco's pillars. We are looking forward to go back to Belgium and do this wonderful adventure once again.

The future of YIA: The debate about Youth on the Move is going on in full force within the Commission. Contrarily to earlier plans, it seems now that YiA will remain a separate programme within the political frame of YOM, but the final decision has not been taken yet. SALTO Inclusion on Facebook and Twitter SALTO Inclusion has recently joined the two big, online social networks: Facebook and Twitter. As both are widely used by stakeholders, youth workers and youngsters SALTO Inclusion works with, creating the own profile could increase our visibility, allow faster and wider information spread and better connection between SALTO and online community. By doing this we couldn't avoid discussing the challenges related to privacy and security issues (such as electronic identity theft, predators on the internet, cyber bullying, "addictive" attachment to social networking etc) which young people and other users are confronted with. There is also increasing concern, and lack of knowledge, about the roles that new technologies are playing in reinforcing social problems rather than providing opportunities for social integration. But, on other side there is a significant body of evidence to suggest that Web 2.0, can contribute to positively supporting the needs of excluded young people and those at risk and have a range of positive outcomes and impacts on young people. To find more about this and what can ICT do for inclusion groups, consult the following report available online: "ICT and Youth at Risk: How ICT-driven initiatives can contribute to their socio-economic inclusion and how to measure it".
