More info: http://www.donboscoyouth.net/node/788 Generations of Participation Generations of Participation is a Transnational Youth Seminar aiming at mainstreaming good practices in ‘youth participation' existing within the Worldwide Don Bosco Movement. Over 170 years people of all ages have voluntarily participated in educating young people to become active citizens. The educational system of Don Bosco on which this learning process is based, was created against the political background of the formation of the state of Italy. Don Bosco Youth-Net ivzw translates this educational system to the present political context of the formation of the European Union. Once our young people reach adulthood they are active in all sectors of society (educational, social, political, economical, juridical, cultural). In the past many of them decided to combine their adult life with an ongoing voluntary engagement within the Don Bosco Movement. Amongst the current generation this tradition has faded. This project will set-up an intergenerational dialogue between young volunteers, older volunteers and policy makers. Young volunteers will be interviewing the older volunteers about their life-long engagement. At the seminar the interviews will be used to identify good practices. The participants of the seminar will have discussions with policy makers from the field of EU youth work and from the Don Bosco Movement. Through this process we want to create a cross-fertilisation where our young volunteers are stimulated for a life-long engagement, where the older volunteers are stimulated to think about bringing their voluntary engagement on EU level, and where policy makers are stimulated in creating the right framework for such a life-long engagement in working for the young. Generations of Participation takes place at the Salesianum in Munich, 8-11 March 2012. It will bring together 26 young people from 13 EU member states (AT, BE, CZ, DE, ES, IRE, IT, MT, NL, PL, SK, SI, UK). Young people, in times of crisis and economic austerity, do not need nice words but strong investments. Young people must be a political and financial priority for Europe. We are going to ask the European Parliament and EU Member States for a strong and independent Youth in Action Programme for non-formal education, youth work and democratic youth organisations and an ambitious European Youth Employment Plan. Among them would be nearly 3 million higher education and vocational students. Master's degree students would also benefit from a new loan guarantee scheme set up with the European Investment Bank Group. The seven-year Erasmus for All programme, which would have a total budget of €19 billion, is due to start in 2014. Studying abroad boosts people's skills, personal development and adaptability, and makes them more employable. We want to ensure that many more people benefit from EU support for these opportunities. We also need to invest more to improve the quality of education and training at all levels so we are a match for the best in the world and so that we can deliver more jobs and higher growth," said Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth. Discovering Europe - Youth on the Move event in Dworp About two hundred young people from 16 European countries will come together to Dworp near Brussels on 27 November - 1 December 2011. This event will close the European Citizenship Trimester Programme, organised by the European Federation for Intercultural Learning (EFIL). During the trimester exchange, the students were living in local host families and were attending school, getting in this way an opportunity to discover the culture and life in a foreign country. At the camp in Dworp, the young Europeans will reflect these intercultural experiences dealing with topics like cultural diversity, the concept of the European Union and of active citizenship. Some of the highlights will be a visit to the European Parliament in Brussels, as well as an encounter with a European Commission representative in charge of the Youth in Action programme. The European Federation for Intercultural Learning is a European umbrella organisation of twenty seven American Field Service organisations - educational NGOs which offer intercultural learning opportunities for young people around the world. The event is part of the EU-wide Youth on the Move campaign. More info: http://ec.europa.eu/youth/news/20111127-discovering-europe-youth-on-the-move-event.htm Participation of young people from Roma Communities The Youth in Action programme enhances participation of all young people. A particular attention has been paid to the access of young people from Roma Communities, through annual priority focus in 2009 and 2010. In the framework of measures taken to facilitate the access of Roma young people to the programme, a booklet is now available, informing on the structures and work already in place within Youth in Action, and giving inspiration for more initiatives with Roma Communities. It is of utmost importance for our youth EU programme to include young people from minorities, and any other less represented group of young people. More info: http://www.salto-youth.net/download/1799/ROMAweb.pdf Priority themes of the Europe for citizens Programme Under this Programme, priority is given to certain themes of particular relevance for the development of an active European citizenship. The setting up of themes will also encourage synergies between projects working on the same issue and will ensure greater visibility and impact of the supported activities and of the Programme in general. Applicants under this Programme are invited to address in their projects one or more of these priority theme. However, the Programme remains open to innovative, bottom-up projects, which do not fall within these priority themes. Some of the themes will be relevant for the whole period of the Programme and will therefore have a permanent character. However, the way these issues are being tackled will depend on specific events or developments in the field. Therefore, a permanent priority can also give indications on aspects on which emphasis will be put in a given period. In order to be able to react to new or very specific topics arising on the European agenda, annual priorities of relevance for this Programme and of a limited duration can be set up. More info: http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/citizenship/programme/priority_themes_en.php The picture of the month was taken at the seminar for returning volunteers "Lifelong Engagement After Voluntary Experience". It is a group picture taken during a coffee break. What's nice about the picture is that the group of participants met during this break with Salesians which are responsible for youth work and youth ministry in their provinces. |
