This time we don’t publish any magazine for young people or animatores on the global level. Just some centres make their own magazines. We have published some working manuals for our training courses. They are focused on same specific topics – game, streetwork, treasur of Christianity, communication, how to lead a group, what is important for young people in specific age…

Mission: 

 

Our mission is to devote the education of the youth.

Domka - Association of Salesian YouthIn the centre of our attention are mainly young people in the critical period of pubescence aged 12-25. We devote our attention also to children, adult members of Domka and young families. With all these groups of people we build a multigenerational educative community.

With our activities and participation in life we offer the Salesian youth a spirituality as a lifestyle based on familiarity, optimism, involvement, sensibility of poor´s needs, personal relationship with God and a joyful everyday life. All this came out of the educative tradition of Don Bosco.

The aim of Domka is to support the integral growth of young people in the period of pubescence in order to teach them to accept their life as a gift and to know how to take up their own responsibility as well as that for their surroundings, community and environment.

In this vein we invite and start cooperation with those who consider youth education important. We bring up to the public forum the topic of youth and education. The preparation and proficiency in these topics is for us important.

Example activities: 

 

.: Activities in youth centres: regular peer group meetings for children and youth & hobby groups (sports, artistic, technical, creative, musical and others), sports tournaments (soccer, table tennis, table soccer, hokeyball), oratorio, summer camps and playgrounds, social events (balls, carnivals, music concerts, discussions, discos, competitions). All activities are provided under the care of experienced volunteer or Salesian. 

.: Festival Lumen: the biggest gospel music festival in the Middle Europe organized from 1992. Festival offers performances of wide range of Slovak and foreign musicians

.: School for animators: 2 years training course for beginning animators

.: Complementary weekend training courses of School for animators (sports, out-door, project management, games, media, PR, first aid)

.: Tutorage of high school subjects

.: Individual and group foreign language classes

.: Regular social work in ground space and public playgrounds: organized in cooperation with children and youth active in the youth centres. The aim is to come closer to street children and to invite them to youth centres

.: International activities: in cooperation with Don Bosco Youth Net and Salesians of don Bosco

 

Background: 

 

Domka (1991) is one of the biggest youth organizations in Slovakia. It has more than 8,000 members, mainly children and youth aged 6-30 in 32 youth centres spread all over the country. Domka is a member of the Youth Council of Slovakia (RmS) and also a member of the Don Bosco Youth-Net and Salesian Youth Movement. Domka is open to everyone longing for friendship, development and a strong community experience. Domka is grateful to hundreds of volunteers who daily invest their time, effort and talents.
